I. Exhibition 19.04 — 09.06 2019
The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success
☞ Raphael Absolonne [+]
Raphael Absolonne (1977) is a musician/artist from Brussels. He's been mainly active as a solo and instrumental guitar-act under his moniker "spookhuisje" (genre: psychedelic surf trance) as well as working on many different, yet ultra-obscure projects, collaborations with other artists and recordings through his PurpleYeah imprint.
☞ Adrijana Gvozdenović [+]
Adrijana Gvozdenović (1986) is an artist and researcher feeding on the context to create publications of sorts for further reflections on artists' motivations and responsibility in the general context of art and art related politics. She lives and works in Brussels, as a researcher in a.pass – advanced performance and scenography studies and is also part of Institute of Contemporary art in Montenegro.
☞ Floida & FABIOLA Skraqi [+]
Floida Skraqi (1989) is based in Milan and Brussels. She completed her Master Degree in Visual Arts at Brera Fine Arts Academy, Milan. She investigates movement across several levels, around notions of practicality, representation and intervention. Together with Rossana Bossini she is co-founder and co-director of the artistic collective Lie-Fi Palimpsest. For this exhibition she has collaborated with the artist Fabiola Skraqi (°1993) who comes from a research practice that cherishes the connection between body and nature.
☞ Ela Stasiuk [+]
Ela Stasiuk (1968) was born in Poland where she studied tapestry at High school of Fine Art and then moved to Brussels, where she was a student of Monumental Painting at the Academy of Fine Art. She has received numerous awards. Her works are displayed in both private and public collections. Ela Stasiuk’s work alternates between the abstract and the figurative, between painting and photography, revealing a world of fantasy, mystery and poetry, where the intangible comes into life in undefined and unreal settings.
☞ Merzedes Šturm-Lie [+]
Merzedes Šturm-Lie (1991) lives and works in Brussels and Stockholm. She investigates history as a spiral of infinite construction and de(con)struction. When producing works she searches for ways to understand the complexity of power and to question that which appears natural, but is in fact a construction. In her performances she works with the power of the voice. Screaming, singing, talking and whispering. A voice can wake us up, momentarily shake the pillars of the constructions on which we stand. Make a crack and thereby perhaps involuntarily open a new space. Šturm-Lie studied at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and has co-founded several artist-run spaces in both Brussels (Swallowing Helmets, Espace0IN) and Stockholm (Sekten, Konstattack).
ClÉo Totti (1989). In her work she expresses a hybrid universe where high technology seamlessly merges with nature, abstraction and references to the body, represented in a fragmented and distorted way, or transfigured into another object. Cléo positions human bodies as part of a greater ecosystem, which is equally natural and synthetic and which seems as dangerous as it is exciting. The bodies in Cleo’s works are androgenic and the properties of the used media, alternating between liquid and solid states, further reinforce the idea of fluidity of gender and sexuality.
